That so many Conservatives think that crooked, liar and felony-convicted Trump is all right is shocking to me. Where are their values? And ethics/morality? Indecency, disrespect, bullying, racism, condescension, lies, incompetence, ignorance, belittling others, not following the law... all that crooked Trump do and stand for cannot be what Canadians value. That Conservatives think these things are all right really shock the conscience.

That 50% of conservatives like him I think speaks more to where they get their news than to their values. They've likely bought into the idea that "mainstream media is too liberal", so only access news from far-right news sources. And those news sources present a rather skewed view of Trump that somehow manages to leave out all the unsavoury bits. I don't think they'd be ok with Trump if they believed the sources that presented those bits of his character. They just sit in a place where they don't trust anything that doesn't come from a sufficiently conservative source.

I forgot to mention in my litany of Trump's evils that he and his progeny were sued by New York State for their repeated diversion of charitable funds to the "Trump Foundation" to personal use. And they have been permanently enjoined by the state (the state of his birth!) to never again pretend to operate a charity within its borders. I mean, who in the world would support a guy who steals charity money from sick kids?

I can sort of understand American MAGAs' undying loyalty to the man. Trump's a crook, but he is their crook, and they will stick with him to the end or until his cruelty personally affects them. MAGAs apparently dislike "woke" and "liberal" more than broken infrastructure, a faltering economy and Trump's brazen criminality. But I simply have to think that Trump's lack of conscience, insouciance about observing the law, and contempt for borders and people's welfare are yet unknown in Canada, Dr. Lefebvre. If they are known and Canadian voters nonetheless support him, my faith in people everywhere will suffer an irrevocable blow.

Come on, Conservative Canadians. There is literally not a single thing in the whole canon of "beliefs" held by our titular head, "DONALD J. TRUMP, PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, 45-47" that is conservative, in harmony with the preservation of individual rights, or humane. He is an unabashed misogynist, a racist, an unindicted war criminal, an adjudged sexual abuser, a criminal and a perjurer. He has enough ties to a known international ring of sex traffickers that he saw need to order the DOJ to employ a staff of full-time special agents at the FBI just to purge his name from documents assembled during the investigations of Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell. He is lazy, incurious, self-serving and a rip-off artist. He doesn't give a damn about the law except insofar as he can circumvent it. And he has made virtually no effort to conceal his desire to take other countries by force--including yours! Pardon me, but this is just simply nuts. THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER.

It is a sobering thought that our first-past-the-post system could, and may still, at some future point, award 100% power to that deeply divided and destructive party.

One small correction is needed in this essay. Smith and Carney signed a MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING, not a MEMORANDUM OF AGREEMENT. Please use the correct words as those two Memorandums are actually quite different in meaning.

That should tell Canadians who to vote for.

"50-50! The party could not be more divided on the most polarizing issue of our times." It makes me wonder if the party can be led. It feels more like trying to direct two feral cats with their tails tied to each other. Half the party thinks their leader isn't far enough left, and the other half thinks he's gone way too far. And as all the moderates see in Carney the progressive conservative they've been looking for, I suppose the remaining conservatives are leaning further and further to the extreme.
